1st Trip and Tip #4

Spending Money!

If you are on a tight budget, there are several ways for you and your child to have spending money, without it coming out of your pocket or at least not too much out of your pocket.

Save change. This can be done ina jar or even a cheap money counter. The earlier you start the better!

Have a garage sale, have your child pick toys and clothes that can be sold and agree to have that money go into a Disney fund.

Lemonade stands.

Ask family to give money, Disney Dollars or Disney gift certificates, instead of other gifts.

If child gets allowance, encourage them to put a percentage away.

If none of this ideas will work for you, but you still want to budget spending money-set a limit for while you are there.

Our first trip, we were there 2 days, my son got a spending limit, but couldn't spend it until we were ready to leave the park.

Tip #4-Sit down with your child(ren) figure out how to earn money and how it will be budgeted. Making sure you have a verbal agreement they understand and agree too, this can lessen many headaches later. I find this works better as kid's age.

First Trip and Tip #3

On our first trip, we had an extremely tight budget for meals.

Breakfast in the car, on the way up and the hotel room the next morning, was Pop Tarts. I know, I know, not the healthiest, but we had gone about our regular home days on just this. We also brought drinks that didn't NEED to be put in a fridge.

Both days for lunches, we just ate at the lower priced end restaraunts in Magic Kingdom. We got away with meals, for two, on two days for under $20.00.

Dinner, we did a buffet dinner between Disney and our hotel the first night. And just hit a fast food joint as we headed home after our 2nd day.

Tip # 3- consider buying Pop Tarts, Go Tarts, Pecan rolls, danish, etc. They can be wrapped up easy for storage the next morning. Disney offers a nice variety of "fast food" types places to eat (these days I think meals run $15.00 and under per person).

Tip # 2

On our first trip, we stayed off site. We were about 10 minutes from the Main Gate of Magic Kingdom.

We found a hotel, for a reasonable nightly rate. Since we only needed one night for our 2 day trip, this was extremely helpful in my budget.

Tip #2: If this is a short vacation or budget is tight, look off site. Most people in these situations only need a room for showering and sleeping, so staying on property or at a more expensive place shouldn't even bother you. Plus, many hotel/motels run a shuttle service, if you are without a car.

Trip and Tip-Part One

It's amazing how many people fee l they have to stay on Disney Property to have a TRUE Disney vacation. This is simply not true. Granted, staying on site does give you 24 hours a day of Disney Magic, but if this makes or breaks your vacation plans, stay off site.

We have done both. We'd rather stay on-site, but if it is the only thing keeping us from going, we'll stay off site.

My 1st trip as a parent, I took my oldest, when he was only 6 (now 24). I had gotten a Health Care Discount, due to I worked in a Nursing Home. We got 2 days for the price of 1.

Tip #1: Look for discounts: Florida Residents, Health Care, Teachers, Military, Law Enforcement, etc.

Check back for Trip and Tip-Part Two COMING SOON!!

First trip, as a parent

Growing up in Florida, I have been to Walt Disney World a few times, between family and church trips. As much fun as I had as a child going, nothing can discribe how it can make one feel taking their own kids.

Here on this blog, I will try to share some tips (from what NOT to forget, to how to try to avoid meltdowns, how to pinch a penny here and there,etc.). Now many people will say, "If you need to save some dollars here and there while on vacation, you shouldn't even go." I never let other people's opinions keep me from going. Could the money been used elsewhere, I am sure it could had, but nothing will ever replace the memories created for a lifetime for me and my boys.

I will update this blog on a regular basis, but can't promise how often that will be. It could be daily, weekly or even monthly, but be sure to check back often to see where I am at on it.

I will share our vacations, since being a Mom, with you. They can be done, you just need to be a good planner, and be ready to pick up a few extra bucks here or there (garage sales, EBay, extra hours at work or a short term extra job).

There are very few people who, at some point in their life, who can't do a trip to Walt Disney World.

Everyone whould be able to "Wish Upon a Star."
